What Chamberlain Group Does in Tucson
If you have pushed a button to open a garage door, there's a decent chance Chamberlain made the opener. The Illinois-based company sells garage door openers, gate openers and access control products under the Chamberlain, LiftMaster and myQ names.
Its Tucson facility dates to 2017, when Chamberlain broke ground on a roughly 300,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution building on land EastGroup Properties owns near Drexel Road. The company had been working out of a site on South Country Club Road before that. Today the building works as a fast-turnover hub that fills orders for Chamberlain products, and its Chamberlain Doors subsidiary uses it as a distribution link to the company's plant in Mexico. That puts it in a good spot, a short haul from I-10 and I-19 and the trade routes running north from Nogales.
The Expansion: A Third More Space by Spring
Sun State Builders, a Tempe general contractor, started the addition in early October for EastGroup, the developer. Real Estate Daily News and the construction trade site AZBEX both reported the project in late October, and the Arizona Daily Star followed on Nov. 4. The new section is concrete tilt-up construction. Once it is finished, crews will take out a 50-foot exterior wall on the north end of the original building to join the two, a plan meant to keep the hub running during the work.
The site is certified under Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT), a U.S. Customs and Border Protection security program for companies that move goods across the border. Construction crews have to follow its security rules, which tells you how tightly the operation is run.
What none of the reports include is a hiring number. Chamberlain hasn't said how many people the addition will add, and we won't guess. What can be said: more floor space at a distribution hub tends to mean more product moving through it, and that work takes people.
What It Means for Tucson Job Seekers
Two sets of jobs are tied to this project. The first is construction, happening right now through the general contractor and its subcontractors. The second is the operation itself, which will need staff as the new space opens next spring. Chamberlain hasn't posted expansion-specific openings, so the roles below are the kind of work a manufacturing and distribution hub runs on, not a confirmed list.
- Warehouse associates: receiving, putting away, picking and staging orders. Warehouse associate career guide
- Forklift and reach truck operators: moving pallets through high-bay racking. Forklift operator careers
- Order pickers and packers: filling outbound orders on deadline. Order picker and packer careers
- Shipping and receiving clerks: checking freight in and out, including cross-border loads. Shipping and receiving careers
- Inventory specialists: cycle counts and keeping the system honest. Inventory specialist careers
- Assemblers and machine operators: production-side work at a site the company describes as manufacturing and distribution. Assembler careers and machine operator careers
- Industrial maintenance technicians: keeping conveyors, docks and equipment running. Industrial maintenance careers
- Construction trades, now: concrete, carpentry and general labor on the addition. Construction laborer careers and concrete finisher careers
Pay, the Wage Floor and What to Expect in Hiring
Chamberlain hasn't published pay for any expansion jobs, so check each posting for its rate. The site is in Tucson's Ward 5, inside city limits, so the City of Tucson minimum applies: $15.45 an hour through Dec. 31, rising to $16 on Jan. 1, 2027. That is a floor, not the going rate for forklift or maintenance work. Our 2027 minimum wage guide explains the city and state rates.
C-TPAT's standards include screening of employees, so expect a background check to be part of the process. Warehouse roles at hubs like this usually ask for a high school diploma or GED, the ability to lift around 50 pounds, and steady attendance. A forklift certification, or experience with reach trucks and scanners, will help a resume stand out.
More South Side and Logistics Hiring
Chamberlain is one of several industrial projects adding space around Tucson this fall. Shamrock Foods is hiring for $20 warehouse jobs at its new Marana distribution center, and Amazon is hiring 1,400 holiday workers in Tucson. On the manufacturing side, American Battery Factory has started site work on its gigafactory, and Albers Aerospace is adding 24 jobs near the airport. More employers chasing warehouse and production workers gives people with experience more choices.

Drexel and Country Club isn't much to look at from the road, just tilt-up walls and truck docks. But that is where a lot of the south side's paychecks come from, and come spring there will be a third more of it.
