What This Fair Is, and What It Isn't
This is a resource fair, not a job fair. The flyer posted on Pima County's One-Stop events calendar describes a day for meeting local organizations, exploring community resources and finding services that support your goals and needs. It's funded in part through the Arizona Veterans' Donations Fund.
No vendor or exhibitor list has been published. Organizers are still taking vendor inquiries at 520-355-1002, so the room is still filling. Some organizations that work with veterans also hire or refer for jobs, but nobody has announced on-site hiring, and we're not going to promise it. Go for the services, and treat any job lead as a bonus.
Know Your Buildings on Ajo Way
The Kino complex off Ajo Way has several county buildings side by side, and it's easy to end up at the wrong door:
- Kino Event Center, 2805 E. Ajo Way: where the October 15 fair is.
- Kino Veterans' Workforce Center, 2801 E. Ajo Way: the county's year-round job center for veterans.
- Kino Service Center, 2797 E. Ajo Way: home to many of the One-Stop's single-employer recruiting events.
All three sit near the Kino Sports Complex, a few minutes from I-10 and Davis-Monthan.
Looking for Work? Walk Next Door
If a job is what you're really after, the Kino Veterans' Workforce Center is the place to put your time. It's a specialized ARIZONA@WORK Pima County One-Stop job center for veterans, active-duty service members and military spouses, open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 520-724-2646 before you go if you want to set up a visit.
The center has served veterans and their spouses since 2012. Expect help with the parts of a civilian job search that trip people up: translating military experience into a resume a Tucson hiring manager will read, finding openings that never hit the big job sites, and getting connected to training.
Combat veterans and their families can also get readjustment help, benefits assistance and employment referrals at the Tucson Vet Center, 2525 E. Broadway Blvd. Call 520-882-0333 for an appointment, and bring your DD-214.
✅ How to Make the Most of the Day
- Bring a copy of your DD-214. Many veterans programs ask for proof of service, and having it in hand saves a second trip.
- Know what you came for. Benefits, housing, health care, school or work. Write down your top two questions before you leave the house.
- Bring a few resumes anyway. No employers are confirmed, but if a conversation turns to work, you're ready.
- Collect names, not just brochures. A direct contact beats a general phone line when you follow up.
What It Means for Tucson Job Seekers
Veterans bring discipline, technical training and security experience that Tucson employers in defense, aviation, health care and logistics look for. These are fields where military experience often carries over:
- Aviation maintenance: aircraft mechanic and avionics technician roles around the airport and Davis-Monthan.
- Defense manufacturing: defense electronics technicians and aerospace quality inspectors.
- IT and cyber: cybersecurity and help desk work.
- Logistics: logistics coordinators and supply chain coordinators.
- Driving and dispatch: CDL truck drivers and dispatchers.
- Emergency medicine: EMTs and paramedics.
Still in uniform and getting out soon? The DoD SkillBridge program lets eligible service members train with civilian employers during their last months of service. Albers Aerospace, which is adding 24 defense manufacturing jobs on the south side, is one Tucson employer that says it takes SkillBridge participants.
