🏆 Who Child-Parent Centers Is

Child-Parent Centers has been running Head Start programs for 54 years, and its administration building sits on East 22nd Street, south of downtown. Its own numbers: about 600 employees, 65 locations across five counties and roughly 3,000 children from birth to age 5, plus pregnant mothers. Services run in classrooms, in family child care homes and in families' own homes.

It's a place people stay. The organization says more than half of its employees have been there ten years or longer, a notable number in a field known for turnover.

This is a regular recruiter on the local circuit. Child-Parent Centers held hiring days at its 22nd Street building in March, June and August, and recruited at the Pima County Community Job Fair at the Kino Event Center on October 6. The November 11 fair, listed on the Pima County One-Stop events calendar, is the next chance to talk with them face to face.

💼 The Head Start Jobs on the Table

  • Preschool Lead Teacher typically runs a Head Start classroom: lesson planning, tracking each child's progress and working with parents.
  • Preschool Teacher typically works alongside the lead in the classroom.
  • Family Educator is the family-facing side of Head Start. In most programs that means working with parents on their child's development, often through home visits.
  • Driver is on the list too. The flyer doesn't spell out the duties, so check the posting for the exact license and driving-record requirements.
  • Custodians keep the classrooms and buildings clean and safe for kids under five.

Child-Parent Centers hasn't said how many openings it is filling or which centers they're at. Current postings are on the Child-Parent Centers careers page.

✅ Teacher Requirements and the Fingerprint Card

Head Start sets its own education bar for teachers. Under federal Head Start rules, center-based preschool teachers need at least an associate's or bachelor's degree in early childhood education or child development, or a degree in a related field with equivalent coursework and preschool teaching experience. That's why the flyer asks for proof of education. Unofficial transcripts showing your graduation date work if your diploma has gone missing.

Earned your degree outside the U.S.? Child-Parent Centers asks for an education evaluation, not just a translation, and its careers page points to evaluation services that handle it.

The fingerprint clearance card is the other hurdle in Arizona child care. Here's the good news: you don't need one to apply, and Child-Parent Centers says it helps new hires with both the application and the cost.

💰 Pay and Benefits

Pay isn't listed on the flyer or the careers page. Ask about it at the fair, or check each posting.

The benefits are published, and they're strong for the field. Child-Parent Centers lists 23 to 26 paid holidays a year that follow the school calendar, including fall, winter and spring breaks. There's a choice of three PPO medical plans and two dental plans, vision coverage, employer-paid basic life and long-term disability insurance, and a retirement plan with an employer contribution. Perks include classroom materials paid for by the organization, professional development, personalized coaching, education reimbursement and eligibility for student loan forgiveness.

One thing to know about the wage floor: with 65 locations, it depends on where your center is. Inside Tucson city limits the 2026 minimum is $15.45 an hour. In unincorporated Pima County, Marana, Oro Valley, South Tucson and the rest of Arizona, the state minimum of $15.15 applies. Our guide to Arizona's 2026 minimum wage explains the difference.
