The All Majors Career Fair runs Tuesday, September 15 at the Bear Down Building, and if you are a Wildcat of any year studying anything at all, this is the one you have no excuse to skip.

🔎 What Actually Happens in That Room

Career fairs sound more formal than they are. You check in at the door with your CatCard, get a printed name tag, and scan a QR code that pulls up the employer list and a floor map. Then you walk the room. There are up to sixty-five tables.

Each conversation runs about two to three minutes. You introduce yourself, they tell you about their organization and what is open, and they may ask about your background and interests. If it clicks, that is when you hand over a resume. The Center for Career Readiness also sets up a "Prep Zone" on site where you can get a quick resume review before you start working the room.

That is it. It is lower pressure than an interview and higher value than an online application, which is a combination you rarely get.

The Three Myths That Keep People Home

The university publishes these and they are worth repeating because they are the exact excuses people use.

"Career fairs are only for juniors and seniors." They are not. Going as a freshman or sophomore costs you nothing and buys you familiarity, so that when it counts you are not learning the format and selling yourself at the same time. Many recruiters return year after year, and a good conversation in year one can turn into an interview in year three.

"I won't recognize any of the organizations." That is often the best-case scenario. The unfamiliar employer with a real opening and a short applicant line beats the household name with two thousand applicants.

"Career fairs are intimidating." Employers came to meet you. They are standing at a table hoping people walk up. You are the reason they paid for the booth.

🎓 Prepare in Twenty Minutes

Register on Handshake first so you can see the employer list before the day.
Pick eight to ten targets and leave room to wander into two you had not planned on.
Write and say your self-introduction out loud. Name, year, major, what you are looking for, one thing you have actually done. Thirty seconds.
Print more resumes than you think. The Career Readiness office offers free resume feedback and downloadable templates ahead of time.
Prepare two questions that are not answerable from the company homepage.
Bring a notebook and write down names. Following up within 48 hours puts you ahead of most of the room.

If professional clothing is the barrier, the university runs a Campus Closet, and JCPenney SuitUp events each fall and spring offer discounted apparel. In a pinch, clean U of A branded clothing beats a hoodie.

Also Register for the STEM Fair

The Center for Career Readiness specifically encourages All Majors attendees to also register for the STEM fair on October 6–7, and the reason is practical: those employers hire for business, management, law, finance, HR and communications roles too. A defense contractor with 500 people in Tucson is not staffed entirely by engineers. If you are a non-technical major skipping the STEM fair, you are skipping some of the highest-paying employers in Pima County.

Not a UA student? The employers recruiting on campus in September are posting Tucson roles publicly year-round, and September through November is the heaviest hiring stretch on the local calendar. Entry-level and administrative roles are among the most-searched categories in Tucson every month.
