Job Description

Make a difference by making a home.
$74,000–$125,800 annually per couple based on a (3-day to 5-day work week)

GAP Ministries, a faith-based ministry serving Southern Arizona since 1999, is seeking a Christ-centered House Parent couple to provide a safe, nurturing, and structured home for children in foster care.

### Position Overview
House Parents provide direct care, supervision, encouragement, and guidance while helping children develop life skills, build healthy relationships, and grow emotionally, physically, and spiritually. This hands-on role focuses on creating a stable, loving home where children can experience consistency, belonging, and support.

### Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include establishing daily routines, preparing meals, supporting schoolwork, planning recreational activities, providing transportation, and maintaining a clean, safe, and organized home. House Parents use Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) strategies and GAP’s Behavior Management Plan to build trust and respond appropriately to challenging behaviors.

### Teamwork and Communication
House Parents work collaboratively with their spouse, ministry teammates, the Group Home Manager, the Department of Child Safety (DCS), and other professionals involved in each child’s care. They are expected to communicate effectively, maintain confidentiality, complete documentation accurately and on time, and support each child’s well-being and development.

### Schedule and Flexibility
This position requires flexibility to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and school breaks to provide consistency and meaningful family experiences for the children. House Parents must be willing to adapt to the changing needs of the home and the children in their care.

### Qualifications and Personal Commitment
The ideal couple is committed to following Christ, embracing GAP Ministries’ mission and core values, and demonstrating compassion, integrity, responsibility, and servant leadership. Successful House Parents exercise patience and sound judgment, remain calm during challenging situations, accept constructive feedback, and build meaningful relationships with the children entrusted to their care.

Requirements

### Are You the Right Fit for This Calling?

**You have a heart for children—and the patience to walk alongside them.** You are at least 22 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and bring at least one year of experience providing direct care to children. Most importantly, you have a genuine desire to serve children and families and help children discover their worth, build trust, and experience hope.

**You lead with character, compassion, and consistency.** Honesty, integrity, fairness, and respect guide your actions. You know how to build trusting relationships while maintaining healthy boundaries, and you treat each child with dignity, even when emotions run high or behaviors are challenging.

**You can stay calm when life gets messy.** You understand that caring for children who have experienced difficult circumstances can be unpredictable. You can manage stress, use good judgment, and respond thoughtfully when situations become challenging. You are emotionally self-aware, able to offer warmth and encouragement, and comfortable working with children who may be active, frustrated, disorganized, or still learning to manage their emotions.

**You are ready to roll up your sleeves!** This is an active, hands-on role that requires the physical stamina to keep up with children, manage household responsibilities, and complete necessary paperwork. You are comfortable using computers, email, calendars, and online documentation systems to help keep the home organized and running smoothly.

**You are willing to learn, grow, and laugh along the way.** You are open to learning and applying Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), behavior management, crisis intervention, and other required practices. You welcome coaching, recognize that growth takes time, and understand that sometimes a good sense of humor can help you navigate even the toughest days.

**Above all, you see this as more than a job.** You are ready to invest your heart, time, and faith into helping children feel safe, build healthy relationships, and discover that their past does not have to define their future.

### Required Clearances & Certifications: Safety Comes First

**Protecting the children entrusted to our care is our highest priority.** Because this is a safety-sensitive position, selected candidates must meet GAP Ministries’ and applicable state requirements before and during employment. These include FBI fingerprinting and a Fingerprint Clearance Card, state(s) Central Registry checks, and pre-employment and random alcohol/drug screening.

GAP Ministries is a smoke-free, alcohol-free, and drug-free workplace and requires drug screening of all new employees as well as random screenings to ensure enforcement of this policy. Although medical and recreational marijuana use is lawful in Arizona, as an Arizona Department of Child Services (ADCS) licensed contractor and an Arizona Department of Economic Security contractor, GAP Ministries must comply with all state and federal laws. Since federal law prohibits the use of marijuana, employees are prohibited from consuming marijuana in any of its various forms.

GAP Ministries assists employees in obtaining required clearances and certifications. House Parent Managers must also complete required training in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), behavior management, conflict resolution, crisis intervention and de-escalation, and medication administration. Adult and pediatric CPR and First Aid certification, as well as Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification and ongoing required training, are also required.

### Driving Requirements: Ready to Be on the Go

**Life with children means being ready for the next adventure—or the next appointment!** House Parent Managers transport children to appointments, activities, errands, and other destinations, often using a GAP-provided 15-passenger van almost daily.

Applicants must have a valid driver's license held for at least five years, meet GAP Ministries’ and DCS driving and insurability requirements, and provide a 60-month driving record. Applicants must also have access to a safe, reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance and be willing and able to transport children safely as needed.

### Physical Requirements: An Active, Hands-On Role

**This is not a desk job!** House Parent Managers stay active throughout the day while caring for children and maintaining a safe, welcoming home. Daily responsibilities may include standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, carrying, driving, cooking, cleaning, and completing other household tasks.

Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and, when necessary and in accordance with required training and safety procedures, help separate children during a physical altercation or assist with or carry a child. The role requires the physical stamina, sound judgment, and readiness to respond to the everyday needs and unexpected situations that come with caring for children.
