π¨ Group Fitness Auditions This Friday, August 21

πΌ What's Actually Posted for Oro Valley Right Now
Mountainside runs its hiring through its own careers portal, and the Oro Valley listings live there. As of this writing, the club has openings posted for:
- Group X Instructor — group fitness, multiple listings
- Personal Trainer — personal training
- Childcare Attendant — Kids Club
- Front Desk Attendant — front desk
That is a snapshot, not a ceiling. A 45,000-square-foot club with a Pilates studio, group fitness rooms, childcare, a cafe and a retail shop needs a full roster, and postings for membership sales, housekeeping, facilities and management typically roll out in waves as an opening date closes in. Check back weekly between now and September 20.
π’ A Phoenix Powerhouse Comes South
Founded in 1991 and marking its 35th anniversary this year, Mountainside Fitness is the largest locally owned health club chain in Arizona, with more than 20 gyms in the Valley. Tucson is its first expansion outside metro Phoenix.
The location strategy tells you something useful. LA Fitness, VASA and Chuze cluster in Tucson's core. Mountainside is going where they are not — the fast-growing northwest and far-east suburbs. That is a company planting flags in a market it expects to own rather than fighting for the middle of town.
πΊοΈ Where the Three Clubs Are Landing
- Oro Valley — 11935 N. Oracle Rd., in the Oro Valley Marketplace area near Oracle and Tangerine, in the former Ashley Furniture space. Roughly 45,000 square feet. Opens first.
- Vail — Houghton Towne Center, a new 40,000-square-foot standalone building near Old Vail and Houghton on the growing far east side.
- Marana — Twin Peaks and I-10, another 40,000-square-foot standalone club planned for the Cascada retail center. Furthest out of the three.
Each club is full-service: free weights and cardio, a Balance Pilates studio, group fitness rooms, appointment-free childcare, an MCafe and MShop, plus recovery amenities including red light therapy and infrared and dry saunas. All of that takes a real staff to run, which is where the headcount comes from.
πͺ The Full Range of Roles
- Personal trainers — NASM, ACE or ACSM certification, or in progress
- Group fitness instructors — Reformer and mat Pilates, barre, yoga, cycle, strength, HIIT, SilverSneakers and more
- Front desk attendants
- Membership sales advisors
- Kids Club childcare staff
- Housekeeping and facilities
- Club management and assistant managers
π΅ What It Pays, and the Wage Detail Nobody Mentions
All three clubs sit outside Tucson city limits, which changes your legal wage floor. Oro Valley, Vail and Marana fall under the Arizona state minimum of $15.15 an hour rather than Tucson's city rate of $15.45. The gap is small at the floor but it is real, and employers who anchor entry pay to the legal minimum tend to anchor lower where the minimum is lower. Worth knowing before you compare an Oro Valley offer against a midtown one.
Above the floor: front desk and entry roles typically start near the minimum, certified personal trainers in Tucson commonly earn in the $18 to $30 an hour range with more at commission-heavy studios, group fitness instructors are usually paid per class, and membership advisors earn base plus commission. Mountainside also sponsors CPR certification at no cost to new hires within their first 30 days and includes a complimentary gym membership.
What It Means for Job Seekers
First-wave hiring is the best-kept secret in any job search. When a company staffs a brand-new club from scratch, entire teams get built at once — front desk through management — and early applicants have far better odds than they would at an established gym filling one opening at a time. Then it happens twice more in Vail and Marana.
If you are a certified trainer, an instructor with a following, or just someone reliable and upbeat who wants steady hours and a free membership, move now. Apply before the doors open, not after.
